Municipal zoning separates resident-operated residential rentals from qualifying commercial-zone accommodation.

• •Golden is exempt from BC's provincial principal-residence requirement, but the Town imposes its own resident-occupancy, zoning and licensing conditions. Provincial registration requirements also need to be checked.
• •The residential STR pathway requires a permanent resident to occupy another dwelling on the lot during guest stays, in an eligible property and zone. The Town's published rules limit this category to three sleeping units and six guests.
• •Qualifying lawful dwelling units in C1, C2, C3, C4 and C6 commercial zones have a limited exception from the permanent-resident requirement. Published STR limits for that category are three sleeping units and eight guests; zoning alone does not establish a property's eligibility.
• •A municipal business licence is required. Applications include safety attestation, floor and parking plans, and owner or strata consent where applicable. Marketing must include the licence number and approved sleeping-unit count.
• •The operator or designated responsible person must be available around the clock, with two-hour complaint-response and attendance requirements. Confirm inspections, occupancy approval and the applicable category with the Town before advertising or operating.
