BC's Short-Term Rental Accommodations Act applies a principal-residence requirement in most larger communities, with published exemptions.

• •In municipalities over 10,000 people, and most smaller communities within 15 kilometres of one, short term rentals are limited to a host's principal residence plus one additional unit on the same property.
• •Exempt categories include small communities under 10,000 outside that radius, designated mountain and destination resorts, and certain other land classes; the province publishes the full exemption list and an address-lookup map.
• •Municipalities can also seek exemptions on vacancy grounds through an annual cycle with June effective dates, so status can change year to year.
• •Local business licensing and zoning apply on top of the provincial framework everywhere.
